Our club read 'Klara and the Sun' and everyone loved the ending except me
We met at Beth's house in Denver last month, and when the host asked for final thoughts, I was the only one who said the last chapter felt rushed and left too much unexplained. People got pretty defensive, saying I missed the point about love and memory, but I think a good debate needs someone to challenge the groupthink. Has anyone else pushed back on a book's ending and had the whole room turn on them?

Honestly, it's just a book club. We're talking about made-up people and a story that's already over. The point is to chat about it, not to win an argument or prove someone's view is wrong. Getting everyone to agree would be pretty boring anyway. So you didn't like the ending, big deal. At least it got people talking, which is the whole reason to do this stuff.

Exactly. green.mason said "the point is to chat about it, not to win an argument" and that's what I had to remind myself. What worked for me was treating it like a discussion, not a debate. I just said "I wanted more from the ending, here's why" and then shut up and listened to their points. @avery366 brought up re-reading too and that was a solid move, gave me a chance to see if I missed something on a second pass. I didn't change my mind, but I stopped caring about being right and just enjoyed the conversation more.

Happened to me with a different book club pick last year. Just stuck to my main point about the plot holes and didn't take the pushback personally. Sometimes a re-read proves you right anyway.
