Our club has finished 30 books and I went back and counted: 11 were picks I hated at the time
So I got bored on a Sunday and made a spreadsheet of every book my club has read since we started in 2021. Out of 30 picks, I gave 11 of them 2 stars or less when we met, and now I would say 6 of those were actually good books that I just was not ready for. The one that bugs me most is a slow family story set in Ohio that I called boring, and three years later I still think about the ending. So here is the fight: should a club pick books people will enjoy right away, or books that might land later? Half of my group says a club night should feel fun, not like homework. The other half says if we only pick easy stuff we never grow. Where do you land on this, and has a book ever flipped on you after the meeting?
