Our book club meeting in Portland nearly fell apart over a single chapter

We were discussing 'The Overstory' and a member named Carol got so upset about the logging scene in chapter 4 she almost left the group. I had to pause the debate and ask everyone to share one thing they liked about the book first. Has anyone else had a meeting get that heated, and how did you calm things down?

Wow, a book club meeting almost ended over a CHAPTER? That is wild to me. I mean, we argue about characters or endings sometimes, but someone nearly walking out? That scene must have really hit a nerve for Carol. Good move making everyone say something nice first, that's smart. I would have just sat there with my mouth hanging open.
