Our book club meeting about 'The Road' last Tuesday got so heated someone almost walked out
We were supposed to discuss the ending, but it turned into a full-on fight about whether the father was selfish. My friend Sarah, who's a new mom, said he was a coward for not staying with his son. Mark, who's ex-military, yelled that she didn't understand survival. It got super personal. Sarah grabbed her bag and stood up. We had to calm everyone down with more wine. Wow, that's a rough one. We had to ban talking about "Blood Meridian" after a similar blowup.

Yeah, we had to do the same thing with that book. It just hits a nerve with some folks, and no one ever changes their mind. We made a strict "no literary analysis" rule for that one title only. It sounds silly, but it saved a lot of pointless fights. Now if someone brings it up, we just point to the rule and move on.
