Our book club hit a snag over discussion format, here's what I figured out

In our last book club meeting, we talked about the main character's decisions in that popular dystopian novel. Some of us wanted to discuss what the author meant, but others kept telling their own life stories. It turned into a bit of a mess, and we didn't really get into the book. I decided to try something new: I made a short list of questions to guide our talk next time. This kept things on point, but a couple of people said it felt too controlled and not as fun. Now I'm wondering if we should have a plan or just let the conversation go where it wants. What do you think? How does your book club handle debates without losing the plot?

Our club keeps a few starter questions in our back pocket, then lets the chat flow. If we drift too far, someone can pull a question to bring us back.

I first read Slaughterhouse-Five years ago but it hits different now.

I read it in high school and just saw it as a weird war story. Coming back to it after losing a few friends, the whole "so it goes" refrain carries a much heavier weight about how we process grief.
