Our book club got into a huge fight over whether we should skip chapters or not

Last Tuesday at our monthly meetup in the back room of a diner near downtown, someone actually walked out because half the group wanted to skip the boring description chapters in our latest read. I've never seen people get so heated about 10 pages of landscape details. It got me thinking, do you all let people skip parts of a book for discussion, or is that a rule breaker in your club?

Skipping chapters is like only reading the blurb for the plot.

Had a buddy who skipped like half of Red Seas Under Red Skies because he "got bored with the boat stuff." He spent the WHOLE rest of the book confused about who the characters were and why they were in certain places. Then he had the audacity to say it was a "meh" book. I made him go back and read the skipped parts aloud to me later. He finally admitted the boat chapters made everything click and the book was actually amazing. Seriously, skipping chapters is just setting yourself up for a worse reading experience and missing the author's work.
