Our book club finally finished a 900 page novel after 4 months of dragging

I run a small group in Cleveland that usually sticks to 300 page max books, but last fall someone pushed for Don Quixote. We lost three members by month two, and I honestly thought we would just quietly drop it. Then one woman started bringing sticky notes with the funniest quotes, and the debate about whether Sancho was the real hero got so good that we pushed through. Last Thursday we closed it out with a potluck and a vote on the next pick, and somehow everyone wants another long one. Has anyone else salvaged a tough read by changing how you talk about it, or do we just accept the drop off?
