My neighbor's book club got into a screaming match over a character's sandwich order
I was at the library in Springfield last Tuesday and overheard two people yelling about whether a character in 'The Goldfinch' would actually order a turkey club. One lady said it showed he was basic, the other said it proved he was hiding his true self. It made me think about how we read tiny details as huge clues. Has your book club ever fought over something that small?

Ah, I hear you. It's wild how worked up folks can get over little things like that.

Oh man, that's so real. We once spent twenty minutes debating if a character leaving a porch light on was a metaphor or just bad writing. It got heated, someone almost stormed out. You really can read anything into those tiny choices.
