My club spent 2 hours arguing about whether a character 'deserved' a redemption arc and I almost walked out

Last Tuesday at the Maplewood library, three members kept quoting the author's interview from 2019 to prove their point, so has anyone else had a debate that just became about who did more homework instead of the actual story?
