My book club friend told me to skip the last chapter of 'The Silent Patient'

She said the ending was too predictable and would ruin the whole book for me. I read it anyway last month and honestly, I think the final twist is what makes the whole thing work. Without it, the main character's actions don't make any sense at all. Has anyone else been given advice to skip parts of a book that you're glad you ignored?

Saw a book blogger talk about this exact thing with "Gone Girl." Some people told her to skip the diary sections, but she said those slow parts make the crazy twist hit so much harder later. Skipping them would have made the whole book feel cheap and confusing.

Ever think that's why some movie twists feel so empty, @joel536?
