I changed my mind about our book club's 'no spoilers' rule after visiting the Seattle Public Library

I saw a group there openly debating a major character death from page 50, and their energy was electric. Has your club ever tried a 'spoilers allowed' session for a specific chapter?

Actually, the surprise isn't the only point of reading together. Our club tried a spoiler session for the first three chapters of a mystery novel, and it let us dig into the author's clues without anyone holding back. It changed how we read the rest of the book, looking for how the setup paid off. That deeper talk can be just as fun as the shock.

But that ruins the whole point of reading together. The surprise is what makes it fun.

The surprise is what makes it fun, but I'm terrible at keeping secrets.
