Hot take: the club president in my group was dead wrong about skipping the author's notes
Our book club leader told us to skip the author notes at the end of "The Night Circus" because she said they ruin the magic. I ignored her and read them anyway, and it completely changed how I saw the whole book. Found out the author spent 3 years in a tiny cabin in Vermont writing it, which made the whole atmosphere make way more sense. Has anyone else had a book club leader give advice that backfired?

the whole point of a book club is to dig deeper into what the author actually meant, not just vibe with the story on the surface. skipping notes feels like only half reading the book to me. if he spent 3 years in a cabin crafting that mood, that's a huge part of the experience you'd miss.
