Hot take: I dropped $60 on a fancy annotated copy of 'Moby-Dick' for our club

Our group in Austin was split on the book, with half of us totally lost in the old language. I bought the Norton Critical Edition, which has notes explaining all the whaling stuff and the symbolism. It honestly saved the whole discussion from just being a bunch of confused looks. Has anyone else found a specific edition of a book that totally changed how your club talked about it?

My cheap paperback made me hate Ulysses.

My friend said the Oxford World's Classics edition footnotes saved her from giving up on it.

Honestly, footnotes are the only way to survive that book. The cheap print just makes it worse.
