Finally picked the thriller over the literary novel for book club and nobody hated it

I was stuck between The Silent Patient and a heavy Murakami book, went with the thriller, and now half the group actually finished it on time for once.

Well, I gotta say I'm surprised nobody hated it. Thrillers are fine for a beach read but they don't really make you think or have anything deep to say about life. Murakami at least makes you work a little and leaves you with some weird ideas to chew on. I'd rather struggle through a tough book than breeze through something predictable where you know the twist by chapter three.

Thrillers are fine for a beach read" but The Silent Patient actually has a lot to say about trauma and memory if you dig into it. Not every thriller is a mindless page-turner, some of them have real depth if you give them a chance!
