Digital vs physical books in my book club was a mess
Our group spent 45 minutes arguing whether e-readers or paperbacks are better for discussions. The physical book people kept insisting they can't annotate on a Kindle, but I pulled up my highlights in 2 seconds on my phone and shut down the whole argument. Has anyone else had this debate turn into a full hour long fight?

Honestly, a full hour arguing about that? That's wild. Ngl, I would have walked out about ten minutes in when someone started getting heated over margins or whatever. Tbh, the physical book people can be really extra sometimes. I bet someone brought up the smell of paper and someone else countered with the backlighting. Sounds like your club needs a hard rule about how long book format debates are allowed to run.

You mention the smell of paper like it's a joke, but that's a legit part of the experience for some people. I'm gonna play devil's advocate here and say a full hour on this is totally worth it. My Kindle is great for travel, but when I sit down to really read, I want a physical book that I can loan to a friend or write notes in the margin. You can't do that with an e-reader, and that backlighting argument falls flat when you're trying to read in bright sunlight. Plus, nobody's ever had to worry about their physical library getting a software update that wipes out their highlights. Would you rather lose a years worth of notes to a buggy update or just have a dog-eared book on your shelf?
