Can we talk about how assigning debate sides changed our whole book club
Last month our group of 8 in Portland split into two teams, one had to defend the villain and the other the hero, and it turned into the liveliest talk we've had in 3 years. People who usually sit quiet were arguing points they admitted they didn't even believe, and the book felt totally new by the end. Has anyone else tried forcing a side or a hot take as a rule for their meetings, or is that too much pressure for casual readers?

My buddy tried this with his group and one guy almost quit over it.
