Been running my book club for 2 years and just figured out I've been killing every discussion
We met at my place in Cincinnati last Thursday to talk about Pachinko and I counted 11 times I jumped in to "clarify" something before anyone else got a word out. My friend Dana finally said it plain: "you keep answering your own questions before we can." I looked back at my old meeting notes and noticed I write down discussion prompts, then basically lecture for 20 minutes on each one. I always thought I was keeping things moving but I was really just doing a one man show with an audience. Anyone here got a trick for shutting up and letting the group actually talk? Do you pick a moderator each time or just time yourself?
