Warning: I picked orange and purple for my coffee shop sign and it's a mess
I had to decide between a bold orange and purple combo or a safer navy and gold for my shop's storefront last month. Went with the purple and orange because I wanted that "wild" look everyone talks about here. Now I'm getting complaints that the sign is hard to read from the street, especially in the afternoon sun. The contrast is just too low between the dark purple background and the orange lettering. My sign guy even warned me about this but I didn't listen. Anyone else had a color combo that looked great on screen but failed in real life?

My neighbor did the exact same thing with her food truck logo. She picked this electric blue and lime green that looked amazing on her laptop but on the actual truck it was basically unreadable from twenty feet away. She spent an extra week painting over it and went with a black background and bright yellow letters instead. Color theory is real and those online mockups totally lie to you about how things will look under real sunlight. The sign guy was probably right but we all have to learn the hard way sometimes.
