My orange and purple living room finally clicked after 6 paint samples

I kept trying to make this burnt orange wall work with lavender pillows and it looked like a bad sunset poster from the 70s. Swapped the lavender for a deep eggplant and suddenly the whole room popped without looking like a clown car. Anyone else find a specific shade shift that saved a combo you were about to give up on?

Yo have you tried swapping the undertones? I did something similar with a navy blue couch and a mustard yellow rug. At first I had this bright lemon yellow going and it looked like a kids playroom. I switched to a darker mustard with more brown in it and suddenly the navy looked rich instead of flat. Sometimes you just need to go a shade darker or warmer to make the whole thing feel intentional instead of chaotic.
