My living room was orange and brown for 8 years, a hotel lobby in Portland showed me what I was missing
I always thought warm tones were safe and cozy... you know, orange walls, brown couch, tan rug. Thought any pop of color would wreck the vibe. Then last month I stayed at this tiny boutique hotel in Portland and their lobby had this deep teal wall with a bright mustard chair and a hot pink throw pillow. It was loud but it worked. I stood there like an idiot for 5 minutes just staring. Got home, painted one wall a dark blue-green, kept the brown couch. Now the whole room feels alive. Why did it take me 8 years to try adding one cool tone next to all that warmth? Anyone else have a color combo they avoided forever until a random sighting flipped them?
