Hot take: a print guy in Portland told me to stop picking spot colors on my monitor and I finally listened
I design packaging for a small coffee roaster and last month I sent a label to print that looked great on my screen. The press operator called and said my bright orange and deep teal were clashing so hard the label looked muddy under real light, and he asked if I had ever checked them side by side on paper. I had not. So I printed 12 test swatches on the actual kraft stock at 100%, 85%, and 70%, taped them to the wall, and stared at them for two days. Turns out my 85% orange with the full teal held up way better in daylight than the full strength pair I had been so sure about. Has anyone else had a press guy or client force them to test clashing colors on the real material instead of a screen?
