Counted 47 clashing color combos in one Portland coffee shop and now I can't unsee them
I started snapping pics of every combo that hurt my eyes in that one spot on Alberta St last Saturday, and hit 47 before my latte got cold. Most clashed hard, but this one teal chair against a burnt orange wall somehow worked and I still can't figure out why. Is there a rule for when two loud colors fight or become friends, or does it just come down to gut? Would love any pics of combos you swear work even though they shouldn't.
The teal and burnt orange thing probably comes down to both being kinda muted, like they both have some gray mixed in so they don't scream at each other. That's the trick with loud colors, the ones that work usually share a little gray underneath. Snap a pic next time of a fail right next to a win and compare, bet you'll spot it.
