Watched a guy lay out a 50-foot beam yesterday in the yard

He was using a string line and a level, no laser at all. Took him maybe 30 minutes to get it perfect. Makes me think I rely too much on fancy tools when the old stuff works fine. Anyone else still using a chalk line for layout?

Yeah I read somewhere that those old school surveyors could nail a foundation within a quarter inch using just a line level and a tape.

Yeah but they also had all day to check it twice, not three jobs in one afternoon.
