Vent: spent two years cutting my tube sheets too cold and a inspector in Gary set me straight
I was rolling tubes at a small shop outside Gary last week and an old inspector stopped me halfway through a sheet. He asked what my tube wall temp was before rolling and I told him room temp, that's how I always did it. He pulled out a little infrared gun and showed me the tubes were sitting around 45 degrees because the shop bay door was open in January. He said cold tube walls don't expand the same under the roller and that's why I kept getting those tiny leaks on hydro tests about 1 in 20. We warmed the next batch with a space heater for about 20 minutes and every single tube sealed first try. Has anyone else been fighting leaks that were really just a temp problem the whole time?
