Tried a different way to set up my level on a big tank job last week

We were putting in a new 12-foot diameter storage tank in a plant near Toledo. Instead of just trusting the factory marks on my 4-foot level, I set up a water level as a master reference first. The factory marks were off by almost a quarter inch over the length of the level, which would have thrown the whole tank alignment out. I'm going to check all my levels against a water level from now on before a big job. Has anyone else found their trusted levels to be off like that?

Quarter inch off? That's a lot. @betty_shah, I'd trust a laser level first.

Yeah, water levels are the real master for sure.
