Thought a cheap stinger was fine until it almost fried me

Bought a $40 extension cord off Amazon for a job in Gary last spring. Figured it was just power, what could go wrong. Third week into the gig, the insulation started melting where it touched a hot pipe. Nearly took a shock when I grabbed it. Anyone else seen cheap cords fail on a boiler job?

...and thats exactly the kind of shortcut that ends up costing you way more in the long run. Its not just extension cords either, its everything now. People want the cheapest option for shoes, tools, even food, and then act shocked when it falls apart or hurts them. Ive seen guys bring harbor freight wrenches to a job, snap a bolt, and then blame the bolt. The whole culture is built on saving a buck upfront and ignoring the hidden cost down the line. A ten dollar savings isnt worth a hospital visit or a house fire, plain and simple.

@green.mason nails it. I only buy 10 gauge cords now after that scare.
