That apprentice asking about weld test coupons got me thinking

Yesterday a first year asked me why the weld test coupons have to be kept for traceability and I realized I hadn't really thought about it in 20 years. We used to just stamp them and toss them in a bin at the shop in Gary, Indiana, nobody scanned anything. Now every coupon gets logged into a computer system with heat numbers and dates before we even cut the base metal. It's a good thing, don't get me wrong, but sometimes I miss the old paper trail where your word and your stamp meant something. Do you guys keep physical copies of old test results or is it all digital for you too? Maybe I'm just getting old, but I still like having a box of paperwork in my truck.
