Spent $60 on a good face shield and it paid off in one shift
I finally dropped the cash on a real welding face shield after years of using the cheap hardware store ones. Got a pit burn on my cheek two weeks ago from a bad angle with the old one and decided that was it. Anyone else notice a big difference when you stop cheaping out on PPE?

My neighbor actually welded with a Miller hood for years before he talked me into getting an auto-darkening Speedglas. That first shift felt weird not having to flip the hood down every time, but by the end of the day my neck wasn't sore and I didn't have any flash burn spots. The visibility is way better too, like I can actually see the puddle without squinting through a dark lens. I think the biggest thing is the headgear, those cheap straps just don't hold the weight right and you end up with gaps. $60 is a solid move if it saves you from one ER visit.

Honestly disagree, auto-darkening hoods have failed on me twice mid-weld.
