Showerthought: the tube bender at the Tulsa shop made me rethink a habit I've had for 12 years
Stopped by a shop outside Tulsa last week to look at a waterwall job and got talking to their lead hand about rolling 2 inch tubes. He said he marks his start point with a paint pen straight off the saw instead of trusting the factory scribe line, and after watching him run six bends not one came out long. I've been trusting that scribe line since my first helper job and have probably cut and re-rolled a hundred tubes over the years for no good reason. Told him I'd try it on my next set, but I'm still not fully sold since the scribe has never been off more than a quarter inch on the stuff I get. Anybody here actually measured the scribe against a real mark, or am I the only guy who's been taking it on faith this long?
