Shoutout to the guy who showed me a scribe trick on a pipe saddle

I watched a 30-year veteran scribe a perfect saddle in under a minute with just a level and a sharpie while I was struggling with a template for 20 minutes, has anyone else picked up a move like that from an older hand on site?

It's a humbling thing to watch a guy who's been doing it since before you were born make something look so easy. Those little tricks he picks up over decades are worth more than any app or template, and they never seem to fail. I've got a lot of respect for the old-timers who are still willing to share what they know.

Saw a guy once cut a 45 degree saddle on a 6 inch pipe using nothing but a speed square and the back of his tape measure. He marked it, cut it, and it fit perfect first try. I was standing there with a laptop open trying to use some fitting app. That old timer just laughed and said "that computer ain't gonna teach you how to feel it." Been doing it his way ever since. Takes a few tries to get the hang of it but once you do, you'll never go back to templates.
