Rant: folks who don't clean their torch tips before every weld
Watched a guy on a job in Detroit last week spend 20 minutes grinding out a bad bead because his tip was caked with soot from skipping cleanup. How often do you actually scrub yours between passes?

Got into that habit myself after a buddy showed me how fast a clean tip lays down a consistent bead. Started using a wire brush and a quick dip into tip cleaner between every pass, even if it felt like overkill. Saved me exactly that kind of grinding headache on a job in Toledo where I was welding overhead on some rusty beams. Took maybe 30 seconds each time but never had to stop and redo a whole section because the flame went wonky on me. Also noticed my gas usage dropped a bit since I wasn't fighting a clogged nozzle. Now it's just second nature, like checking my settings before I strike an arc.

Hell yeah, that's how it goes with pretty much everything if you think about it. Take two extra minutes to do something right the first time and you save an hour of fixing your own screwups later. It's like wiping down your tools before you put them away instead of letting rust eat them up.
