PSA: A bad weld on a boiler in Toledo made me double-check every single joint now

Honestly, I was working on a retrofit at the old plant near the river last spring. We found a seam that looked fine on the surface, but the penetration was maybe half what it should have been. The guy before us just ran a bead over the top and called it good. Tbh, I spent the next two days redoing every similar joint on that unit. Anyone else get that paranoid after finding something like that?

What kind of pressure was that Toledo boiler running at when you found it? That's the scary part.

Seriously, how high did they let it get? @the_jenny is right, that IS the scary part. I saw a similar one years back that was way over its rating. The relief valve was totally rusted shut. Just thinking about all that built up force waiting to go off makes my skin crawl. It's a miracle some of these old things don't blow more often.
