My old torch tip was sabotaging every weld and I had no clue

I kept chasing porosity for like 8 months, swapping gas and rods, then a guy in the locker room at Local 374 told me to check the tip with a magnifying glass. Sure enough, the orifice was dinged up from dropping the torch twice on that refinery job in Baton Rouge. Anyone else find that the smallest worn part screws up more than the big stuff?

Man, that's wild. It's always the dumb little stuff, right? I mean, I had a similar thing with my truck, it was running rough for weeks and I pulled my hair out checking fuel and spark, then found out the air filter housing had a crack letting junk in. It's like the big parts scream at you but the small ones just whisper, and you gotta be real quiet and patient to hear 'em.
