Watching an old timer at the county fair forge a leaf with just a cross peen hammer

I was at the Clark County Fair last summer and saw a guy shape a perfect decorative leaf from a flat bar without switching tools once. He used the cross peen for everything, from drawing out the stem to texturing the veins. Do you all have a favorite single hammer for most of your detail work?

Wish I could do that, but my hammer skills are basically just making metal angry.

My hammer skills are on par with my cooking, so everything just ends up flat and sad lol.

Yeah I get that flat and sad thing, I mean maybe try holding the hammer closer to the head for more control?
