Update: my hammer marks went from a mess to a real pattern after I swapped one thing
Six months back my hammer marks were all over the place, then I switched from a 3 lb cross peen to a 2.5 lb rounding hammer and the difference on my last batch of 12 hooks was obvious. The lighter head let me move steel with the face instead of fighting it with the edge, and my shoulders stopped aching after an hour at the anvil. So which side are you on, does the hammer shape fix your marks or is it just reps and hammer control that gets you there? I'm in Kansas City and would love to hear from folks who forge all day.
