That vinegar trick for cleaning rust off old tongs actually worked
I had a pair of 20 year old tongs that were caked in rust from sitting in a damp corner of my shop. Soaked them in white vinegar for 24 hours and scrubbed with a wire brush, and they came out almost like new. Has anyone else tried this method or do you stick with sandblasting?

20 years? Man those tongs might be older than me. I can't believe they cleaned up that good with just vinegar.

Yo @lucas972 you ain't kidding, I thought the same thing when I tried it. I had an old cast iron skillet that looked like it came from a shipwreck, totally covered in rust spots and flaking. Soaked it in straight white vinegar for about 18 hours and hit it with a steel wool pad. Came out smooth and clean, no sandblasting or anything heavy. The vinegar smell was brutal for a day but totally worth it. You ever try it on anything besides tongs?
