That $900 anvil I almost passed on turned out to be a steal
Found a Peter Wright at an estate sale outside Tulsa, 150 pounds, looked rough with rust and a chipped horn. I walked away twice because the price seemed crazy for something that needed work. Spent 3 hours cleaning it with a wire wheel and oil, and the face is barely worn under all that grime. My hammer strikes land so much better now, I can't believe I was fighting a cast iron anvil for 2 years. Has anyone else found a hidden gem that looked like junk but cleaned up perfectly?

Did you check the face with a straightedge before you bought it, or did you just roll the dice on that much rust?
