Split my first 5160 billet after 30 minutes at the forge, need heat treat advice
I was in my garage in Boise trying to forge weld a 6 layer billet of 5160 and 15N20, and when I pulled it out for the third welding pass it split right down the middle like a bad log. I think my forge was running too cold at around 2100 degrees and I rushed the fluxing, so now I have two useless half billets and a lot of wasted gas. Should I just scrap these and start over, or can I stack and reweld them with more borax and a longer soak?
