Quenched a 1095 blade in canola oil instead of my usual Parks and the hamon came out way softer than I wanted
Did a small hunter knife last weekend, heated to 1475 and dunked it in canola warmed to about 130, and the as-quenched hardness tested at 61 HRC on my file, which is lower than the 64 I get with Parks 50. Is canola just that much slower, or did I mess up my soak time at 10 minutes? Thinking I need to go back to the fast oil for thin stock like this.
