Just dropped $300 on a new propane forge burner kit

Bought it to replace my old homemade one. The first fire up, it hit welding heat in half the time. But the flame is so loud my neighbor came over thinking something was wrong. Some guys say noise means power, others say it's a waste of gas. Anyone run into this with forced air setups?

Got a buddy who swears by the noise thing too. He ended up building a simple baffle box around his blower motor, cut the sound way down without hurting the heat.

Curious what he used for the baffle box material. Did he line it with something like acoustic foam or just build an air gap with plywood? I'm picturing a simple wood frame with a couple layers of drywall inside, but I'd worry about trapping too much heat.

Yeah, mark_fisher48 is right about the noise drop. My neighbor did something similar and used rockwool insulation inside the wood frame, not foam. It's way better for heat and sound. He left a decent air gap around the blower itself and used two layers of MDF instead of drywall.
