I finally tried a gas forge after 5 years on coal

Spent all last Saturday at a buddy's place in Boise using his gas forge and man, I couldn't believe how clean it was. No ash flying everywhere, no constant tinkering with the fire. Has anyone else made the switch and regretted losing that hands-on feel?

Oh man, I saw a video from a blacksmith in Oregon who said switching to gas felt like cheating at first but he never looked back. I get what you mean about missing the hands on feel though, there's something about coal that just feels more real you know? But I bet the cleanup alone is worth it, no ash in your coffee cup.

Coal just feels more real" is exactly why I still use a flip phone, because sometimes the struggle is part of the fun.
