Hit 1000 hammer strikes on a single project and my arm is telling me about it
I was working on a big decorative gate for a friend, just a basic scroll design, and I kept count out of curiosity. When I hit 1000 swings on the one piece, I was honestly shocked at how many it took for something that still looks so simple. Do you guys ever track stuff like that, or am I just slow?

Tracking your swings is a great way to see the real work that goes into things. A simple scroll design still needs a ton of careful hits to get right. You're not slow, you're just seeing the hidden effort.

The 27 hours I spent on a single mandala pattern last month really drove this home for me. I had to log each swing because I kept thinking I was failing at it. But once I saw the numbers, it was clear that those "simple" curves take a ton of micro-adjustments nobody sees. Do you think most people would give up if they saw their own swing count on a complex project? I feel like that hidden effort is why so many beginners quit, they just think they're bad instead of realizing they're just early in the process.
