Coal or gas forge for the long haul? My 3 year propane experiment backfired

I ran a gas forge out of my backyard in Columbus since 2021, mostly for knives and small tooling. Last month the regulator died mid-heat, and I had to borrow a buddy's coal rig to finish a commission. That week made me question everything about my setup. Gas is clean and easy, but coal gets to welding heat faster and cheaper per pound of steel. Am I crazy for thinking about switching back, or has anyone else made that jump and regretted it?

Your regulator dying mid-heat sounds like a nightmare, but coal dust in my garage would drive me insane in a week.
