My friend said my 'binge list' was just a pile of the same old stuff

I was showing my buddy my watchlist, which was full of gritty crime dramas and dark sci-fi. He looked at it and said, 'Dude, you're stuck in a genre rut.' It stung, but he was right. I forced myself to try a comedy I'd skipped, 'What We Do in the Shadows', and laughed for three hours straight. Anyone else get stuck watching one type of show and need a push to try something new?

Totally get that. I was in a hardcore fantasy loop for like a year, just one wizard show after another. My partner finally put on a dumb workplace sitcom, and it was like a reset button for my brain. You don't even realize how deep you're in until you watch something totally different and it just hits.

Ever feel like you're just feeding the algorithm what it expects? I got stuck on true crime docs until my sister made me watch a baking show, and the pure relief was wild. Sometimes your brain just needs a different flavor.

My cousin called me out for the same thing last year with my music playlist. I had like 200 songs and they were all the same sad indie rock from 2012. She made me listen to a podcast about beekeeping and now I'm in this whole other world of random educational stuff. It's funny how we get these comfort zones in everything, even the shows we watch or the books we grab. Your brain gets so used to a certain rhythm that it forgets other things can hit just as hard, you know?
