A comment about my pacing made me rethink how I watch shows
I was talking to a buddy about how I can't seem to finish a season of anything lately. He flat out said I was stuffing too many episodes in one sitting and burning out. He pointed out that I treat binge watching like a race instead of a marathon. So I switched things up last month and started capping myself at three episodes max per night. It sounds simple but it actually let me savor the story more instead of just plowing through to the end. Now I'm actually remembering character names and plot details better. Has anyone else gotten feedback that messed with their viewing habits?

That thing about treating it like a race instead of a marathon really hit home. I used to think I was just consuming content efficiently but I was basically speedrunning stories and missing all the little details that make them good. My wife actually said something similar about me watching horror movies, she pointed out I was powering through three in a row and then complaining they all felt the same. So I started watching one a night and taking notes in my phone about what scared me or what didn't land, and now I actually remember why I liked or hated each one instead of it all blending into a blur of jump scares.

I mean, taking notes in your phone is interesting. Do you find that actually changes how you watch the movie in the moment, or do you kind of flick on the phone light during the scary parts? I tried something similar with books and realized I was spending more time writing down thoughts than actually getting into the story.

Nailed it with the three episode cap idea, I started doing that too and realized I was basically mainlining shows like I was speedrunning a video game. @the_taylor your note taking habit sounds smart but honestly my phone notes are just "scary part at 42 minutes" followed by three random emojis. Guess I should actually try to pay attention instead of treating Netflix like a checklist.
