TIL a seized seatpost can eat a whole weekend if you skip the right prep

I pulled a 1992 Trek 520 frame out of a barn in Ohio and the seatpost was welded in solid. Tried the usual penetrant and a pipe wrench for 2 days, zero luck, then remembered the ammonia and ATF mix trick from an old forum thread. Had it out in 45 minutes after that, but the saddle rails were toast. Anyone got a go-to method for posts that are truly stuck past the seat collar?
