PSA: Spotting more mechanics with hand cramps from gripping tools too tight
I keep hearing about sore hands in the shop after long shifts. It hit me when my own fingers started aching from building wheels all week. We get so into the work that we forget to loosen our grip now and then. A quick stretch every hour makes a big difference. Just wanted to share since it's a simple fix we can all try.

Switched to those ergonomic grips last season and my hands stopped cramping up halfway through builds.

But what if you have all the right tools and still end up with a death grip? (I've seen this happen a lot.) Sometimes it's more about getting focused and tense during work, not the gear itself. Stretching breaks force you to pause and reset, which can save your hands even with perfect tools. Plus, not every shop can just buy new equipment, so free fixes like stretching make sense. It's about building better habits, not just spending money.

Honestly that stretching advice only goes so far. The real issue is using tools not made for the job, like trying to use regular pliers for crimping when you need proper bike tools. You're fighting the tool all day, so of course your hands cramp. Investing in the right gear stops the death grip before it starts.
