Just found out most chain lube tests are done in labs with zero dust or grit

I was reading an article from a mechanic in Denver who actually set up a test rig on his back patio. He ran the same lube on two identical bikes, one on a clean stand and one riding actual gravel paths. The lab results said the lube lasts 400 miles. Outdoors it was basically dry after 80. Makes me wonder how much of what the manufacturers claim is even real. Has anyone else seen this kind of real world vs. lab gap?

Did he test it under actual rain or just dry gravel...

80 miles before it's basically dry on gravel is pretty rough. That 400 mile lab claim is just laughable now. Did that Denver mechanic mention what kind of lube he was using, like a wax based one versus a wet one? Because I bet the gap gets even bigger depending on the type. How are they even getting 400 miles out of anything when you factor in real world chain speed and load?
