Had a spoke snap on a delivery run yesterday, total pain

I was hauling a heavy load of groceries downtown when I heard that sickening 'ping' from the rear wheel. Got it home and the rim was totally out of true, had to replace the spoke and retension the whole wheel. Has anyone tried one of those cheap spoke tension meters, or is it better to just go by feel?

Go by feel, those cheap tension meters are more trouble than they're worth.

By "go by feel," do you mean just wiggling it or actually counting wheel rotations?
