After 6 months my new derailleur hanger snapped on a smooth road in Portland
I replaced my hanger back in February with an aftermarket one from a popular brand and it finally gave out last Tuesday during a casual ride. The bolt hole just cracked right through while I was shifting up a gentle hill, no crash or anything. Has anyone else had a brand new hanger fail this fast without any impact damage?

Whoa that's frustrating. Was the aftermarket hanger from one of those CNC'd brands like Wheels Manufacturing or did you go with a cheaper no-name one? I've had good luck with Wheels stuff on my old bike but I've heard some of the random Amazon hangers are made from softer alloy and they just crack under normal shifting torque. What brand was it exactly? I'm trying to figure out if this is a known issue or just bad luck.

Yeah, cheap Amazon hangers are just asking for trouble (lesson learned the hard way over here). I'd bet money it's a softer alloy that couldn't handle normal pedaling torque.

Yeah I read somewhere that some aftermarket hangers use 6061 aluminum instead of 7075 and that's why they snap easier.
